Where are they all?

I have stopped counting.....it takes a few hours to realise that the children have really gone home and that we can stop caring for them for the time being......

This years trip has been amazing.  The return to Sauze d'Oulx was definitely one of our best decisions. The resort was perfectly suited to our group who could access the vast mountain so easily. Even our complete beginners went up to one of the highest slopes after day two. I always have my heart in my mouth when the instructor says come on you're ready to go up to his group of newbees but this is quickly replaced by warm pride as they competently ski down. Our  group of 12 advanced skiers flew around the mountain at such speed that we wondered sometimes if they really had passed us or if it was a blur. Their instructor commented that if they lived in Italy they would have been picked up by the regional talent scouts. He was so impressed with their determination and willingness to try whatever he suggested. The intermediates were also complemented on their tenacity and comradeship. Their instructor Stefano was very proud of them.  The lower intermediate group persevered to master their parallel turns and again Max commented on how hard they had worked.

The group have been exceptional both on the mountain and when taking part in all of the activities. The indoor football was a great success, the town quiz was challenging and the  games room was fab. The whole group were dancing at the disco even though some were still in their seats!!! The ice cream was so good we had to go back the next day. The karaoke was such fun...for most anyway.

So thank you parents for lending us your children!!! They have all grown throughout the week in so many ways.  I am sure that they are totally exhausted and will sleep well tonight.  I know that Mr Brewer is planning on creating a DVD that you might like to see. Similarly we will share all of our photos that the group have taken.

Until the next time.....Liz Brown

Mrs Hacker's Highlights

As we come to the end of a fabulous week it is time to reflect on some highlights.  The resort here at Sauze is superb, perfect for both beginners and more advanced skiers.  The weather has been excellent with just one blip yesterday; we have been piling on the sun cream and sunning ourselves at lunchtime.
The food has been plentiful to say the least.  Pasta, pasta, pizza, chips, meat, endless puddings and ice cream, crepes and more pasta.  Stupidly I believed that an activity holiday would mean I would lose weight, sadly no!
Skiing has been excellent, a hesitant start by me, leading to more adventurous pootling along which suited me just fine!
The real highlight has been the pupils!  On a personal note I have been a very proud Mummy, seeing Erin ski for the first time and loving it!  However our adoptive children for the week have been exceptional.  Our pupils at Rookwood never cease to amaze me with their good humour and exceptional support for one another.  It is the only school trip where Year 6 pupils compete with Year 11's, both on the slope and in the disco!
Overall a very successful trip, with excellent staff. In particular huge thanks should go to Miss Brown, our esteemed leader!
Happy holidays,

Mrs Hacker x

Italian transport

Well after Tuesdays antics with Danny I had no idea how yesterday would pan out. A phone call at lunchtime meant a skidoo ride across to Where Georgina had had a nasty fall. Before we knew it a helicopter had been called and we were off to Turin . Fortunately she is fine following the impact and limping round the hotel. I must say though that although the flight was amazing I am so glad the phone hasn't rung today..... yet !!!!

View from the warm

The beginners group show their resilience  and character as Mr B watches from the warmth of the mid station cafe. Get out there and join them Mr B!

Snow Day

Conditions today have dramatically changed and snow/wet conditions have come in. Miss Brown has found the perfect way to enjoy her afternoon until her bambinos come home.

Will Drew's Big Day Out

This morning we went down the nursary slopes twice then went up the mountain. Once we got up the mountain we went to the blue (easy) slope 3 times because the snow is more compact In the morning. After lunch we then went up the mountain again but this time we went down a red (difficult) slope 3 times then at the end of the day we went down the blue slope another 3 times. I think that today was a very fun day with a bit of challenge thrown in there.

Ski Trip antics

Another superb day in the mountains with blue skies and perfect snow. The children are having a fantastic time and are getting on well. The instructors are impressed with the groups. Personally I never want to see another bowl of pasta again as we have pasta for lunch  and then four courses for dinner....including pasta.  The walk up to the slopes was very entertaining this morning listening to Ben Comptons stories of the three peak challenge. The afternoon for me involved taking Danny to hospital in Susa by Ambulance with a suspected broken arm. Five hours later we returned to the hotel by two trains and a bus, with a very tired teacher and a lovely young lad with a bruised arm...fortunately not broken. I forgot to mention that we are in need of a new male Pe teacher as I have sacked Mr Brewer after he led Mrs Hacker and I down a horrendous red run which was about two metres wide with a sheer drop down one side...we were not impressed. He thought it was most amusing watching us struggling down but I think he was a little worried really.  Anyway time for bed...more news tomorrow.

Danny Versus Food

Following a five hour trauma Danny is back in the hotel. After landing on his arm and being skiiied over. He only suffered shock and bruising but by the amount he speaks we didn't notice the difference. Danny is now enjoying his man versus food challenge. Will Danny win or will it be a victory for food!

Erin's message

The ski trip so far has been a real success. This is my first time going skiing and I have found it really fun but tiring. We have been learning lots and lots and yes there has been some bumps but apart from that really amazing and a great experience learning new skills each day.
Hope all is well back home, missing you tons. See you soon x

Morgan message

It is my 4th day in Italy and I have had lots of pasta and crepes!

Oscar's sauze ski trip!!! :)

Hello world!!!
The first day was hard and I fell over a lot but as I skied more I found my ski legs and by the second Half of Sunday I was skiing at last. The second day was the best, and as the day went on Henry robins and I started to bomb down the slopes at great speeds, and soon we ended up coliding (luckily without injury) Henry and I are also racing down the mountain on every slope and have had more than a few close calls over the last day and a half, but has been great fun. I have also been off piste for the first time and on every occasion someone (including me) have fallen over and created big pile ups. The Italian alps have been amazing so far and I can't wait to go again soon!

Fun on the slope

Dear Internet
We've been ski-ing for 3 days now and the lower intermediate group have been adventuring up and down the mountains parralleling, snow ploughing and falling over. The groups morale is very high and there is lots of continuous banter within everyone, even our instructor gets in on it ! It has been amazing so far and everyone seems to be enjoying the trip.

Dear family

Alright mum, dad and cherry!!!! I'm having a real good time, and I'm bare sick at skiing apart from sliding down on my bottom on a black run to the very bottom, but apart from that it's good. I've got you all a present already and sorry for missing Mother's Day mum!! I'm missing you cherry, can't wait to see you all!! (joke) and I forgot to mention my sister (sorry) xxxxx
